    Celestaire sells the sight tube. See description. I find the sight tube an excellent option over optics when the weather is rough. Also if the Sun is peeking in and out from behind clouds then the sight tube aids in capturing a quick observation. There may be a pupil effect of a sight tube over a ghost ring. Optical experts chime in.

    Do you need a scope on the sextant to shoot the sun?  I'm sure it helps, but is it essential?  The sextant I made only had a pretend scope with no lenses in it to make it look like a real sextant, and it even worked with bright stars.  Dave
