Francis,
There is that paper by Arthur Pearson: "Lunar Distance explained...."You can find it on the www, if not, I will go through my papers and send you a copy.
In it, he uses the standard spherical triangle formula which is identical to the
standard formula for Hc. I had no experience with lunars at all. Reading the paper it occurred to me to apply hav-Doniol which I did, and it worked. So I informed Frank about it in a message - a private one so as not to appear in public as a fool.
Frank then posted his thoughts on lunars and mentioned his Vertical Circle Forcing
method. I have no knowledge on that one neither but hope to find a detailed description including examples. He only passed over the older methods to some extend, including the hav - Doniol. However, my interest has been tickled, and I want to see if I can use VCF to do lunars by hand quickly and reliably, too, with hav - Doniol or otherwise.
So, until then, I will shut up re: lunars so as not to confuse me and others.

Sorry Gary,
I must be going senile, but could not find post relating to Doniol for lunar clearance. Do you have the identity numbers?
Best wishes
Francis
