Byron: Mr Brown of HO. ,along time now deceased, told me that the Academy did not teach celestial. As noted below. I would not say they did by this artical.
" The United States Naval Academy said yesterday that midshipmen would continue to learn to use the sextant, the wedge-shaped navigational device that assists the plotting of a ship's course on a map. But the Academy added that instead of performing a tedious 22-step mathematical calculation to plot the course, midshipmen will feed the raw data into a computer."
The Academy and OCS did teach my "Franklin Piloting Technique" on their small craft with bad gyro's,long ago. I would like to know if they still have it in their Class Notes or studies? I do have their class notes with the Technique but the date is around 1970. I understand like, Officers Cadidate School Newport the Academy boats had very bad gyro,s. Do we not have Academy or OCS Newport members?
