Excellent idea! I for one am aware of only two companies that still make brand new sextants today: Davis in the USA and Astra in China. Are there any others? I gathered that one can get "new" (meaning "never owned, just sitting in inventories") Tamayas and C&P's but they are no longer made. Do I have that right?

This comes up so often that I think it would be appropriate if we assembled all the advice we can come up with as a community. How do you pick out a sextant? Who are the dealers in new sextants? How do we select older sextants on ebay? What are the pitfalls? What I'm thinking here is we'll put together all the advice we can and put a link to it on the main NavList page.
