Jackson McDonald asked:
Is there still a need (market) for such a next-generation sextant?
I think - there could be a need in a back-up system for the satellite-based navigation. But it must be really robust and reliable: no batteries involved and as failure-proof as theoretically possible. Though it is feasible to power-up some electrical circuitry by solar battery and an ionistor capacitor for temporary energy storage (and I'm experimenting right now with it for a DX radio receiver of time signals and RDF) - a capability to endure a near-by lightning stroke must also be considered.
I'd gladly buy a lighter and more compact sextant (than my FREIBERGER) but I expect it to be far too expencive...

Tony
