It appears that a portion of that document has been a victim of what they used to call "OCR". Today it's just "text recognition". I believe that those cases where you see "log esc" and "log ese", you're looking at text which should have been rendered as log csc which, of course, would be the log cosecant of an angle (which is identical to the log of 1/sin of an angle, which is also identical to the negative of the log of the sine of an angle).
