Re: Hardly ever get an LOP than 20 NM - why?

    Laurence,

When I run your numbers I get an intercept from your DR position as 9.9 NM toward on Zn 158 degrees.

Remember, the LOP is a line - it could run across your feet and still have an intercept 20 miles away.  You need two LOPs or more to get a fix.  I have had LOP intercepts of 10 and 15 miles that cross at a fix half a mile from where I took the sight.  When using the table lookups you are chosing an AP to give a LHA in whole degrees.  You could have a perfect sight and still have an intercept of 30 miles.  It is the fix that is important.

ps  Your messages would be easier to follow if you name the person you are answering.   IMHO  :-)
