    Re: Hav-Doniol again, without multiplication

    Lars,

The reason I like the classic Ageton table (which sandwitches AB log secant cosecant · 100,000 with natural sine cosine) is beacause it offers two ways to perform sight reduction to 1' accuracy from a DR position (standard Ageton and classic Ageton). A set of working tables listed every 1' for both haversine and Classic Ageton offers three ways to perform 1' sight reduction from the DR position. Total pages for the two tables comes in at around 25 (12 pages both sides). The Classic Ageton doesn't do well in the 10' wallet formate and this is where the haversine table wins out. The single page haversine 10' wallet table is a pleasure to use when reducing by hav Doniol. I don't find a time or error advantage using the regular 4 place log table over straight 4 place multiplication so I opt for longhand multiplication.

Greg, you wrote "I will suggest using the ageton classic AB table for just the multiplication step."

A more direct approach is to use an ordinary 4-figure log table for the multiplication (or division in case of azimuth), fitting into one page. A suitable table attached.
