    I have determined that if you are standing on a beach with rollers coming in, you may be COMPELLED to move to higher ground to see the horizon.  

    The attached photo was sent to me by a friend who took it from a beach along the west coast of Vancouver Island.  Clearly, the waves are getting higher as the bottom becomes more shallow.  In this case, one is looking UP at the crests of waves, and the horizon is invisible.
