Wayne, I just re-read your initial message and saw that you are "scheduled to take the introductory class that Frank Reed holds at Mystic". Very nice. I look forward to meeting you! Until then, are you local? Near Rhode Island? I would be happy to look at the shades on your sextant if you want to swing by Jamestown for a few minutes. I, too, have a USN Mk. 2 sextant available. For another data point, I have used sextants with rotatable polarizing shades many times, and I am not blind yet.
