There are at least 2 more books on the subject:

Wright, Monte Duane, Most Probable Position. A History of Aerial Navigation to 1941; Lawrence, Kansas, 1972.

And: Blanchard, Walter,  (Ed.), Air Navigation from Balloons to Concorde, Bognor Regis 2005 (ISBN 1-903953-90-1; 25 £). The latter is a collection of articles that were published in the Journal of Navigation over the years; the editor was President of the Royal Institute of Navigation from 1993 to 1996.

The development of aeronautical charts is covered by Ristow, Walter William, Aviation Cartography: A Historico-Bibliographic Study of Aeronautical Charts, Washington, D.C. 1960.

There are, of course, in addition quite a number of articles dealing with the instruments and calculating devices.

    Season's Greetings

    Wolfgang
