Overall I have found the Navlist to be an excellent source of advice. Occasionally there is a trace of condescention that is less than helpful. I do celestial navigation as a hobby, from my front yard. I do not have nor will I ever have a boat to test these skills on. I do Cel-Nav because I enjoy doing it. My interest in this came to me from my father, a WWII bombardier navigator in B-17's in the South Pacific. It is an absorbing and fascinating hobby that connects me with the past and with those that had to find their way without the technology we have today. It also gives me a feeling of connection with the way the universe runs. There is merit, for me, beyond a "badge" in trying out various methods for sight reduction.
