The Hawaiian ocean-sailing canoe, Hokule'a, is presently in southern New England. Today and tomorrow the vessel is at New Harbor, Block Island (not far from "The Oar" restaurant, for those of you who know the area). I only learned about this B.I. stop a few minutes ago; otherwise I would have gone out to visit today. Next stop is Mystic Seaport. Hokule'a is scheduled to make the 9:40am bridge opening at Mystic and arrive for a welcoming ceremony at Mystic Seaport shortly after, staying through the weekend. This weekend is also the"Wooden Boat Show" and always a good time to visit Mystic Seaport.
Looking at the voyage track, I was genuinely surprised to see that almost the entire trip up the east coast was on the Intracoastal Waterway. I certainly understand the practical value, both in terms of safety and the all-important outreach, but it seems to diminish the story.

PS: No, Hokule'a does not quite qualify for the "Wooden Boat Show" since she is made of fiberglass, built in 1974. But in this case, the spirit is in the right place, yes?
