To make the screws turn more easily you can buy brass thread inserts, with 8/32 or 10/32 threads. A larger hole is drilled then the brass threaded tubes are screwed in. Hardware stores have these, usually in large drawers. Your work looks good. A site called "firstsurfacemirors" will be worthwhile.
