I've attached the pic of Ridge to this message. The Statute of Limitations for trespass has run, so I can tell the real story.
Though it looks like he confidently helming a boat racing the clock in the America's Cup, look carefully at the water behind the stern.
The boat was in fact moored at its berth when the photo was taken. the camera angle is high because otherwise you would see the Boston skyline in the background.
And... it wasn't his or Hoyt's boat.
In fact, neither any clue whose boat it was. The publisher needed a pic for the book on tight deadline. So they strolled down to the yacht harbor and when no one was looking, they confidently hopped into the cockpit of some stranger's boat, staged the shot and then jumped back onto the dock and innocently strolled away...
And we all thought that Ridge was an upstanding straight-arrow Ivy League Yankee... ;-)
