Marguet in his Histoire générale de la navigation. wrote "Le 4 août 1767, Messier, sur l'Aurore, prit la distance de la Lune au Coeur du Scorpion". The star used for the lunar distance was Antarés, alpha scorpii, the red giant, red as the heart of the Scorpio(n) might be.. . .
