    How do you memorise the stars' names?
    From: Tony Oz

    Hello!

    Do you use any mnemonics to memorise the stars' names? If you do - could you share it?

    I could so far remember very few star names and the ways to identify them. Apart from the all-favorite Polaris, Vega, Deneb, Altair,Sirius and Betelgeuse, I can point to:

    • Acrturus - sitting on the continuation of the arc of the Ursus's Major "tail";
    • Castor and Pollux - Castor vs Pollux as per "caster angle on my bicycle is small", because Castor's brightness is fainter of the two;

    I'd be glad to learn more of the names.

    Regards,

    Tony
