    Jumping in late because I was bumped from the list for some reason,
    which seems to be a yearly occurrence.
    
    Another reason sun sights were not used by land "navigators" is that
    at noon during spring and summer the sun is too high in the sky to
    observe in an artificial horizaon, at all but quite high latitudes.
    It's also easy to imagine that taking star sights around the campfire
    would be easier than stopping at noon, and less aggravating for one's
    companions.
