Hello Greg,
If am right, this "M. Doniol" was a French Engineer who also invented an excellent sextant, the best one I ever used.
But these sextants are very difficult to find nowadays.
When a young F8 Fighter pilot in the French Navy, not qualified yet then for night landings onboard Aircraft Carriers, I was regularly using the Captain's Sextant for twilight Celnav fixes. The Captain / Commanding Officer of the Aircraft Carrier "FOCH" was the son of "the" M. Doniol just mentioned here-above, and he was extremely kind in giving me permission to regularly use his own (and treasured) "father given" Doniol Sextant.
Best Regards
Antoine M. "Kermit" Couëtte
