Good point of yours, and yes ! I do agree that - just per se and taken out of its environment - this specific HMF definition of "Errors / Corrections" is not 100 % unequivocal (RE 1).
Nonetheless a sensible/reasonable approach still remains to start from the first - and initially the only one - value which we already know through the measuring process - i.e. "x0" - from which we can subsequently expect to derive some "error free value" i.e. the " x " value as per the HMF definition. (RE 2)
Meanwhile it might be interesting to further check whether the HMF indicates elsewhere a more precise and comprehensive definition of what Errors / Corrections are, maybe through its Table of Contents (Dave !!! are you here ?). (RE 3)
