Gary, Thanks for your interest and comments. No, the user would not have to take the item appart to be used below the equator. Actually, I chose a bad photo of the unit I suppose. In the photo it's not set correctly. When the GMT time adjusted for EQT is set, Lat ( North or South) and the users Longitude is set it would line up perfectly. Before I knew how to set it I had all sorts of speculations on removing the pilot arm in order to line up the pointer.... however, the instrument is far smarter than I am, and in the end it showed me how it needed to be set.
