Hi Tony
Though I have only listened to this debate on Earhart/Noonan navigation error with one ear - as an ex- RNZAF military navigator of over 4000 hours of flying - I have navigated, as the senior navigator on a P3B Orion long range patrol aircraft from as far West as the Indian Ocean and as far East as the USA West Coast North to the Bering Sea and South to the Antartica.
The 1st thing we ever did in flight planning - the 1st thing - is set our watches to GMT.
We navigated ALWAYS by GMT - for anyone who is NOT an aeronautical navigator to suggest an air navigator would make a mistake with GMT and use local time is as stupid as suggesting we would mix North and South or East and West.
And you are right Tony an insult.
