Pioneer was the original manufacturer of that octant that eventually became the A-7. Mine is an A-7 and I love it.
We know that Noonan was using the Pioneer since we have a copy of his receipt for one borrowed from the Navy which had been used by Harry Manning and then handed over to Noonan on the way back from Hawaii.
