Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but my point is: the disaster happened NOT because of the date-line crossing. If one's chronometer is on UTC (or GMT by then) there is no way a navigator to plunge into mind-boggling puzzle-solving process asking himself stupid questions "Which NA page should I use now?!?!".
I'm fairly certain, Mr Noonan was NOT using so called "local time" for navigation. To even think he could (use it) is an insult. Certainly that "filmmaker" was talking things she knew nothing about.
