Bowditch says elipticity e=sqrt (2f-f**2). And as you've mentioned : it depends on the model used. At least in Bowditch-1968 all the constants in meridional part calculations are based on Clarke spheroid 1866.

No, the only independent variables are: a and f. And depens on the Earth model: sphere, ellipsoid or geoid
Axes: a, b
Flattening: f=1-b/a
eccentricity e = sqrt(2*f-SQ(f))
eccentricity e = sqrt(2*f-SQ(f))
