    Thanks to all for your helpful comments. It appears my 7x prism monocular is as good as any other higher powered scope. I too have done comparisions of open tube, 3X and 7X sights and for stars there seems to be no advantage to higher power. Even sun and moon sights are pretty close to the same with all three. (Yes I do well with open tube) The 7X does make a difference when shooting sun index correction sights and for lunars.
    At my age, (58) I think my visual accuity is slipping and I was looking for an "optical crutch" I suppose. Perhaps a visit to the optomitrist is in order, and I'll solicit his advice for the situation.
