When working the sights in the book "100 problems in Celestial Navigation", I would "eyeball" the position of the fix within the area enclosed by the LOPs. Almost every single time I was only 0.1 minute away from the answer given in the book. A check with a computer program yielded the same result. I'm not saying that I have any special ability. Rather that over dozens of examples, "eyeballing" seems to work well enough. Just my two cents.
