Hi all, sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys sooner, but I had some unexpected business come up over the weekend and haven't been able to sit down and think about it to my liking just yet.
Dealing with simple differences and multiplication instead of iterating over a monster trig function is certainly preferable, and in hindsight much more obvious. I suppose my main concern is ensuring that my mental model (of LOPs and to some extent, spherical trig) is correct, but it's relieving to know that solutions exist which could reasonably be worked out with nothing more than a pencil and paper. Depending on a graphical solution, while practical, is not necessarily ideal IMHO. I just don't think I'd be able to sleep at night (on a boat) without being able to manage it all mathematically.
Thanks for scanning book pages and digging up old notes for me, I really do appreciate it. Let me chew over thise some more and get back you tonight.
