Frank Reed you wrote: Venus in daylight then, yes?
Hi Frank
I used the Sun to re-calibrate the lubber lines in the mounting, because I'd moved the Astrovan through about 45°. Then I set up the sextant on Venus using GPS Spoof. We watched for ages but saw nothing, so we went into the house for a cuppa. When we came out again, there it was as clear as a bell. Yesterday or the day before, we might have managed better cuts. Also, the certain way to guarantee giant cocked hats with 50y.o. aircraft sextants is to pick three bodies within 180° azimuth and have two bodies with a cut of less than 30°, so I’m not expecting anything special.
