Unless the sextant case has a "hand" in it,
like the C&P cases that literally latch onto the sextant handle, you would
be bes off storing it horizontally so the frame is supported on the intended
legs. After that it is only a matter of finding a dry secure place that is
convenient for you. If you cannot fix the case in place (so it can't be thrown
around in rough seas) you might try a couple of large patches of velcro on the
case and a matching flat surface.
