if paper becomes wet it also becomes fragile, transparency printed with lasr is almost impervios to water.
even laminated paper can decompose if lamination is compromized, laminated transparency will last several times longer in my experience,
l have laminated transparencies that have lasted 10 years in leg pocket of my outdoor clothes, they have seen temps from (and exceeding) +30°C to -20°C, wet (few unplaned baths, rain...), sand, mud, blood... and still reable, I admitt they are scratched, faded and stained... but still readable.
