I forgot to say what the printouts where, they are roamers and protractors. a newer addition is the vernier roamer, a great tool for getting accurate (as long as map is accurate) grid references to 3 figures.
also my own version of the "T" plotter with protractor and symedian plotter with 5mm grid added.
