Reminded of watching "Great Train Journeys" - and they were covering Canada - Edmonton to Casper - and spoke of the great explorer
David Thompson who surveyed a huge area of Canada - and they showed him doing a sun shot using a false horizon as he he was way up in the Rockies.
And I think I have found the drawing of the picture.
My marine sextant is under the Xmas tree - as is the false horizon from Davis also (came in from Amazon real pronto)
And have just had Bob Swartz put aside an A8-A Bausch & Lomb - reconditioned USAAF aero bubble sextant - enabling me to shoot anywhere, anytime -
Can anyone tell me if the following are useful
Dad was bomber command WWII - Wellingtons and Mosy's - he had in his library a couple of very old books
Hughes' Tables for Sea and Air Navigation - 1946 - It has a very good fairly serious introduction on spherical trig - until I digest that (which will give my brain a hurry up but luckily was good at maths)
And Noirie's Nautical Tables 1944
May be they are just good keepsakes? And I will just use the newly arrived Reeds 2022 Astro-Nav tables
