I hae found "Self Instruction in the Practice of Navigation", in two volumes, by Dunraven, to be an excellent book on navigation for self study. Somewhat old fashioned, but clear on the basics.

My apologies, didn't mean to short you two or three decades of learning and life experience. Thank you for the link to archive.org...tremendous amount of material returned upon searching "navigation". Will have to be selective given the amount. What book(s) would you recommend? Have read Mary Blewitt, but that did not click for some reason. Letcher seems to be clicking for two reasons: each chapter addresses one and only aspect of the procedure or theory in detail yet does so in just a few pages, the geometry and physics of is always front and center which helps me based upon my "visual learning" disposition and engineering background.
