Having lived in Wichita, KS it is not as odd a location as you might first believe. AirBus, Boeing, Beechcraft, Cessna, Learjet and others have manufacturing facilities there, as well as a host or suppliers and related firms including avionics. It is almost impossible to avoid living below someones flight path, from civilian to military. Being centrally located there are also cross-country stopovers for military aircraft. (It was there I learned to identify an overhead Navy fighter, as its wings pivot forward in preparation for landing if memory serves.) So it's pretty much the "Field of Dreams" story. Ken placed Celestaire there and the others came. ;-)
