Interesting that you mention the telescope mounting adjustment screws. On my Troughton- Simms, it was these very screws that were almost stripped. They are small, brass (#3 is a close substitute) and since they can be tightened against each other, thread stripping is just waiting to happen. I wonder if in the ageing process, brass gets more brittle and chances of stripping becomes easier as the centuries roll on.
