This evening I saw Jupiter and Saturn without difficulty. I did not realise how easy it is to view Jupiter. I could not see Numki; I put that down to light pollution and the high cloud that was forming.

I watched the Moon before and after it was on the meridian. I did not see (hey diddle diddle) Zuben'ubi jumping over the Moon. That was probably due to  thin high cloud and also light pollution. I note that Zuben'ubi has a magnitude of only 2.8. I do not think that Zuben'ubi is not classed as a navigational star becuse it is not in vol 1 of 249.

I decided to try and photograph the moon. I followed Frank's advice and set the camera to manual focus. I could change the image from a blob to a clear circle that looked nothing like a waxing gibbous moon. I was using a cheap kit lens so maybe that is the problem. Maybe to photo the moon I need to put the camera in full manual?

Then I realised that I have another focus problem. It is problably a coincidence but I will mention it just in case anyone can come up with a bright idea. I do not use the telescopes on my sextant because I cannot  focus the sun. I have always assumed that part of the optics is missing.
