I'm on the road this week and can't check my copy, but I believe that
Cyrus Lawrence Day's _The Art of Knotting and Splicing_ has a table for
the commonest knots and some discussion of how the numbers were arrived
at. You might also check Ashley or Graumont & Hensel.

However, even it this is true, it's not clear that ropes of different
materials will exhibit the same characteristics for the various knots.
Day's text is old enough that the experiments may have been carried
out on manila or sissal, and may not hold true for nylon and dacron,
let alone the current exotics.
