I thought I was lucky getting a Kollsman Bundeswehr 3V pendulous reference periscopic sextant in particularly good condition from Poland on eBay last year for a little over £70GBP plus p&p. However, after several months deciding not to bid on really bashed about mountings offered for sale at ridiculous prices, one came up last week for £75, ‘Buy it now’, I offered £50 and my bid was immediately accepted. It arrived today and is a little beauty. It appears not to have been installed in an aircraft since it was last serviced in 2007 and has possibly never been used, ever. Strangely though, there was no original box. Moreover, upon checking, I found it to be a 3V model. I can’t get over how small it is compared to the Smiths mounting. When the delivery man arrived with such a small parcel, I nearly sent it back. I thought they’d sent me the incorrect item. DaveP
