I finally finished the Kollsman 3xDuracell MN1604 Plus Power 9v Batteries mod. It works fine. You can always back off the lamp covers to kill the lights when you don’t need them to save power. I suppose I could have added a switch. For the final job, the main problem was soldering up the battery studs. There must be a soldered joint just inside the positive stud. Applying a soldering iron to the outside makes it fall off. I ruined two brand new MN1604s that way, and one of the ones in my pack is a bit iffy and needs the green tape to hold it down tight.
