I think I have figured out the issue with my crazy altitude counter. The index angle is correct wrt the counter, but the adjuster knob stops are misaligned giving a different available range. I will know for definite after the weekend. Probably our disassembler friend in action again.
This would also tie in with the torn pellicle membrane, which i replaced with a piece of cellophane film. To my surprise, this works just fine.
