Attached is the RAF Standard Dome Refraction Table from AP3270 Vol 3 (Yellow Band), which is comprehensively explained. It immediately poses more questions than it answers. What was a standard dome? Was it the same for all nations? Were they blown, or were they pulled? When and how did they calibrate one (the 1938 issue of AP1618, predecessor to AP3270 doesn’t appear to mention dome refraction)? Is the calibration report in the UK or US National Archives? Should it also refer to a standard sextant (the distance between the hanging hook and the index mirror might have varied) or even a standard navigator (as far as I recall the A12 had no hanger)? DaveP
