    Re: Kollsman periscopic sextant mount

The Kollsman sextants originally came with clockwork averagers but most were replaced in the 1980's with computerized averagers. The computerized averagers require 24 volts but the old type work find on 6 volts or 12 volts, you just have to replace the bulbs. If you have the one that requires 24 volts for the averager there is no problem because there is a separate electrical input plut for the the averager so you can supply 24 volts to it and 3 or 6 or 12 volts to the light bulbs. The mount is set up to supply electricity to the sextant and, if necessarey, to the computer averager (the clockwork averager does not require an electrical input.) But you can feet electricity to the mount and the sextant separately, to the mount to illuminate the azimuth scale, and to the sextant to illuminate the altitude scale and the bubble. And then a seaparate input, if necessary, to an electronic averager.
