Hi Eric - I'm very glad that the chamber filling method worked well for you.
Coincidentally, I also just purchased a later model Kollsman that also has the fill port on the side. It had a bubble but I could not shrink it but it responded well to a bit of filling - it was quite nice to just needing to tip the instrument over rather than having to pull the bubble chamber off.
I also had to address the compromised pellicle as it was, while still attached to the frame, nothing like flat and tight like it should have been. I found that a glass cover slip (microscope slide cover glass) of 22x50mm trimmed a bit will fit. I've taken a few shots with it and seems to work.
