I wish I could have helped with explanation of the mount azimuth rings - I used this sextant for real (as I mentioned) on the P3B Orion - but that was in the 70 -80s and just too long ago to remember in detail - though through the use of the azimuth and aircraft true heading from the inertial platform it made finding ANY navigation star a breeze.
And yes a fine example and an ingenious sextant.
