Another problem is batteries. Apparently dry cells in the 1940s were a
little smaller in diameter. I had to laboriously strip the jackets from
modern batteries to get them to fit.
I put Duracel batteries in my A12. One fitted into the bubble illuminator straight away. The other wouldn't fit into the scale illuminayion battery housing until I took the Paxolin? liner out. Then it fitted OK. It's funny how WW2 zinc and cardboard batteries left in sextant boxes for all those years rarely seem to make a mess, but modern alkali batteries often leak if left in for some time, even though they're supposed to be leakproof.
