Amen to that. If you have access to a decent workshop and you have good hand skills then its reasonable to look on ebay for a "barn fresh" A12. However, you really need to know the instrument so you can ask the right questions, pick out the likely candidates and pass over those that are missing vital bits or are otherwise too far gone.
If you want an A12 that will be reasonably accurate and perform right out of the box, spend a little more and buy a reconditioned A12.
