    | Frank's method is BASED on PARALLAX.
    | It indeed gives you two lines of position,

    | and the resultilg position is 60 times less
    | accurate than the measurement itself.

Yes, indeed. Alex's message, dated 5 October, did indeed reach me, and
I was fully aware of the valid points he had made then. Peter Fogg, on
7 Oct, had failed to appreciate its contents, so I wrote to put him
right, reinforcing what Alex had written earlier, and adding-
"As Alex has pointed out, even at its best, it would be
twice as inaccurate as determining a lunar longitude by lunar distance
without GMT, and that's difficult enough."

Many circumstances, in which Frank's proposed method might apply,
(such as in downtown Chicago) could be resolved, far more accurately,
by the simple use of a bowl of water. The water would provide an
artificial horizon, and two altitudes of the Moon (when its altitude
was below 60 degrees) at widely separated times would provide two
precise position lines. Can Frank do better than that, I wonder?

    George.
