read Frank's excellent description. And view those magnificent
figures. Okay, I have been upstaged.

I do have one quibble: I believe that if you measure only the angle
from a star to the nearest limb of the moon, then the apex of the cone
of position defined by that measurement is not at the center of the
moon. Rather, it is along the line from the center of the moon to the
star, such that the cone of position is tangent to the moon. If you
make a second measurement (star to further limb, or lunar diameter)
you can make the semi-diameter correction and move the apex to the
center of the moon. Which does simplify the rest of the reduction.
