The exact title from the article itself: III. Recherches sur les pricipaux Problemes de l'Astronomie Nautique. Par Don Josef de Mendoza y Rios, F.R.S. Communicated by Sir Joseph Banks, Bart. K.B. P.R.S. His introduction to direct methods around page 79, seems quite clear. The fundamental equation is really a very straight forward combination of sines and cosines. Programmed it up in excel in 20 minutes and can reproduce the web calculator results. He then spends considerable effort recasting the equation into 40 different forms to facilitate rapid solutions with logs and tables. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
